Enlarge an image 2× or 4× using AI super-resolution, which reconstructs detail and edges for a sharper result than ordinary stretching. The model runs on your device after a one-time download, so your photos stay private. It’s ideal for small or low-resolution images you need bigger — and because the AI runs in your browser, images over about 4 megapixels are declined with a clear message; resize or crop those first.
How to use Upscale Image
- 1
Open Upscale Image
Load this page — everything runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install.
- 2
Add your files
Drag and drop JPG, PNG and WebP onto the workspace, or click to browse. Add several at once for batch processing.
- 3
Adjust the settings
Fine-tune the output with the options panel and watch the result update live.
- 4
Download your result
Save each file or grab everything as a single zip. Your originals are never uploaded.
How AI upscaling differs from resizing
Ordinary resizing simply spreads the existing pixels over a larger area, which makes images look soft and blurry when enlarged. AI super-resolution instead predicts plausible new detail — sharpening edges and textures — based on patterns learned from millions of images. The result looks noticeably crisper than a normal enlargement.
When it helps (and its limits)
- Great for: small product photos, old or low-res images, thumbnails you need at full size.
- Good for: gently sharpening slightly soft photos.
- Limited for: severely blurry or tiny images — AI can’t invent detail that was never there.
- Choose 2× for a balanced result; 4× runs the 2× model twice for maximum enlargement, so it takes correspondingly longer.
- Size limit: images over about 4 megapixels are refused, since the model runs entirely in your browser — crop or downsize first, then upscale.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No files are sent anywhere. Upscale Image handles images directly on your device, which keeps private photos private and makes the tool fast.
Is Upscale Image free?
Yes, entirely free — no sign-up, no watermark and no usage caps, whether you process one image or hundreds.
Which formats can I use?
Upscale Image works with JPG, PNG and WebP. For bulk jobs, add up to 50 files in one go; each file can be up to 100 MB.
Can AI upscaling fix a blurry photo?
It can sharpen mildly soft images convincingly, but it can’t fully recover detail from a very blurry or very low-resolution source — no tool can invent information that was never captured.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The upscaling model runs in your browser after a one-time download, so your photos never leave your device.
Why does it say my image is too large?
The upscaler accepts images up to about 4 megapixels. Larger inputs would take minutes and can exhaust browser memory, because the AI runs entirely on your device — resize or crop the image first, then upscale the part you need.
How is AI upscaling better than resizing or stretching?
Ordinary resizing just spreads existing pixels over a bigger area, which looks blurry. AI super-resolution predicts plausible new detail — sharpening edges and textures — for a noticeably crisper enlargement.
What is the best free tool to upscale images?
For a private, no-cost option, ImgWand upscales 2× or 4× with on-device AI — no credits, no sign-up, no watermark, and your photos never leave your browser.
